This is a good book not because its recommended by my professor but also it has lots of examples which make it easily understand.

Good information, but difficult to read and formula heavy

I like the way this book was organized with call outs and important terms defined at the end of each chapter. However, I found it very difficult to get through all the formulas and examples in many chapters. The real research examples and the chapter summaries were helpful. Some chapters seemed like a users guide for data analysis software that I didn't have and have no need to purchase. I think this book would be good for people interested in learning data analysis of marketing research, but it was more than I needed or wanted to know about what happens to data when it goes to the analysis team.

Awesome book. Great introduction to actual market research (rather than marketing for businesses, etc). My prof said it's a great book to keep on your bookshelf, and I think I agree.

This is the 7th version of the book, so not the most recent (8th), but I found it close enough except for the Real Life Research case studies at the end. It includes a cd for A statistics program, which my class doesn't need, but might be cool to look at sometime.

Gabreski was a top American ace in both WW II and Korea: in the European theater he downed a record 28 aircraft, and in Korea scored six kills. His accomplishments were perhaps astonishing because he came close to washing out in flight training. But his career had some other unusual twists as well. Son of Polish immigrants, Gabreski flew with a Polish squadron of the RAF before he joined the U.S. Air Force and, on the day he was to fly home after 166 missions, he was shot down and captured. He left the Air Force in 1967 and worked in the aircraft industry until 1978, when he became president of the Long Island Rail Road. He retired in 1987. His autobiography is a tale of high adventure and, with an assist from Molesworth, editor of the Skagit Valley Herald in Washington, he tells it with a matter-of-factness that heightens the impact. Colonel Gabreski is the highest-scoring American ace. He has a history in fighter planes that begins with the attack on Pearl Harbor, continues through the Battle of Britain with the Royal Air Force and as a commander of fighter units of the Army Air Force against the German Luftwaffe (who shot him down and captured him on his last mission), and culminates over Korea where in jet fighters he scored over six more opponents. Unlike many other fighter pilots, Gabreski's descriptions of these events are matter of fact and understated, at times even humble. His view of World War II and the Korean conflict contains perceptive insights and angles that are new and fresh, as are his compelling descriptions of air combat. The low-key memoir of an American fighter pilot who achieved ace status in two wars. Gabreski, the son of Polish immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania, nearly flunked out of Notre Dame but was nonetheless recruited by the Army Air Corps. In 1941, he was posted to Hawaii, where he lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor. Eager for action, Gabreski talked the Pentagon into assigning him to a Polish RAF squadron in England; he subsequently became the ETO's top ace, with 28 confirmed kills in 17 months of aerial combat. On the day the author was scheduled to return home to a hero's welcome, he flew one last mission and was shot down--and spent the last ten months of WW II behind the wire of a POW camp. Back in the States before V-J Day, Gabreski married his longtime sweetheart and left the military for a sales job at Douglas Aircraft. After almost two years of civilian life, however, he reenlisted with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Following a brief sojourn as a test pilot, Gabreski was sent to Korea in 1951 as a wing commander. Flying F-86 Sabrejets, he was credited with downing more than six enemy planes, making him a double ace. Retiring in 1967 as a full colonel, the author accepted an executive post with Grumman, where (save for a hectic two-year stint as the politically appointed president of the Long Island Railroad) he remained for the next 20 years. Gabreski devotes most of his understated text to matter-of- fact accounts of his combat experiences, leaving readers to speculate on just what made him such a deadly dogfighter. There's also a rather full roll call of erstwhile comrades in arms, most of whom add little to the narrative. These cavils apart, an often ingratiating memoir. Great book about a stellar career !!!!!!!!!!

Written by Colonel Gabreski, this book mostly covers his actions over Europe during World War 2. A high scoring ace, and squadron commander with, the famed 56th Fighter Group ( the " Wolfpack" ),starts with his childhood in Oil City, Pennsylvania, and progresses through his college days and entrance into the Air Corps. Two big suprises to me were that he was not at all interested in aviation as a teenager,and , as he himself admits, was not a competent pilot trainee as he was learning to fly. Amazing , from a much admired pilot who became one of America's top aces. The last part of the book covers his adventuers after World War 2,especially during the Korean War, where he again shot down several North Korean MIGs. A well written book, I highly recommend it to students of U.S. military aviation. Thank you, and may The Lord bless and guide you.

Outstanding read!

I completely enjoyed this book. Granted, I am a huge WWII airwar history buff. But, this was a great read. I read it cover to cover in 2 days. The book takes you through Gabby's early life, his strict upbringing (a good thing) all the way through his retirement years. All in all this was an outstanding book. Great lessons in leadership can be found in this book.

Some of these reviewers need to get a grip! This is a book meant to be fun and silly--provide a good laugh for you and your spouse.

This book is a fantastic reminder that it's okay to take life and marriage a little less seriously at times and have a fun, carefree time with your spouse. I love it!! My husband and I have already started filling out the pages and can't wait to fill out more!

Prime Harmonica

Dave Gage's book, "Harmonica Beginners" seems to be an excellent reference source for a starting player. Mr. Gage got me, a beginner, playing in short order. He takes much of the mystery out of the harmonica with basic but detailed techniques and tips that are well explained and organized. A nice feature that Mr. Gage added for the purchaser of this book, is a free 3 month "mini membership" to his online harmonicalessons.com website that contain audio and video files which enhance his instructions. Best of all, Dave Gage stresses having fun with the harmonica and playing some music.

A fun course, especially for men!

I got this course for my teenage son because my previous efforts to teach him Russian by providing him with a Russian mom (ME!), trying to have him meet other Russian-speaking kids who live in the US, and even hiring an American teacher with near-native fluency in Russian and a great sense of humor, failed miserably.

So, we read the reviews and decided to try. A few minutes in the car each day seemed like a possibility with his busy schedule at school and tons of homework. We're about half way through these disks, and he is learning to say basic things and is getting more comfortable saying them. Of course, Russian is hard. Really hard. But what this course does well is that it ignores a lot of grammar issues and focuses on conversation. Russians slur and mumble the endings of their words, so perfect grammar might not be appreciated, especially if the circumstances of your Russian conversation are the same as these disks create.

Now we get to the fun part. The first couple of lessons focus on the general tourist stuff: where is the Red Square, where is the metro, where is the ticket office, stuff like that. But by about lesson three, I was getting a little worried because most of the conversations go something like this (remember, I bought this for a teenage boy):

"Imagine that you just met a Russian woman. Ask her what she would like to drink. Ask her where she would like to drink it. Ask her if she would like to go to a restaurant."

My son and I were both laughing.

When a later lesson was all about the "your place or mine" discussion, I wondered if I struck a bargain with this one. A Russian course and sex education wrapped all in one. Definitely worth the money.

Our current lesson focuses on telling time. And, as my son put it, "it's amazing how many things you can learn, and all of them started with getting a drink."

A profound point and a great cultural insight. If you ever go to Russia, you'll know what I mean.

But seriously, a good course. Yes, it's repetitive, but there's no way to learn a foreign language without repetition. And you will impress your friends at your next party when you ask them in Russian if they prefer beer or wine.

well crafted but very narrow

The first four hours of this course should probably be called "How to Pick Up Russian Women at an Airport Hotel." After a discussion of Professor Pimsleur's method it proceeds endlessly to repeat sentences like "Would you like to have something to drink with me tonight," or, "Should we drink wine at your place or beer at my place?" The next four hours are somewhat better, but still very narrow: after eight hours total one knows virtually no verbs except eat, drink, and have; no numbers over a hundred; nothing whatever of the past or future tenses; and almost no situations that do not involve food, shopping, or asking directions to Red Square or other tourist landmarks. Some of this may be deliberate: the introductory course is priced cheaply but the intermediate and advanced courses are more expensive, so that you have to invest several hundred dollars to gain any real facility in the language. As it is, it's useful for someone who wants to survive on a very short tourist trip, but not much more than that.

Disappointed

I knew when buying this that no written text was included, so I can't fault it for that, even though it would have been a great help if a script was included. My issue is that the man and woman speaking the phrases apparently have different dialects in addition to the male/female forms and endings of some words in Russian. Apparently one speaker is from St Petersburg and the other from Moscow. This caused a variance of pronunciation which left me wondering which I should focus on remembering. They also spoke very quickly, which made it even more difficult to pick up certain sounds and inflections. I would compare it to learning American English from CDs where one speaker is from Brooklyn and the other is from Tennessee.
The repetitiveness of phrases can get a bit irritating, but does lead to improving your recall. I would like to see products like this in standard Moscow-dialect Russian, which is fully understood throughout all of Russia and Russian-speaking countries, and then the student could pick up dialect differences in advanced studies.

OK but glaring inexcusable errors concerning Methylation's role in Histamine Intolerance.

This is an Ok book and has a lot of good useful information all in one place. As someone with histamine intolerance with gene defects that code for DAO, MAO, and HNMT finding out that turmeric blocked MAO was very useful as well as finding out exactly how Vitamin C works as an antihistamine. Her charts, while somewhat confusing are also useful. With such information in mind, as an herbalist and nutritionist, I was able to search for other herbs and supplements that also block either DAO or MAO and or other critical enzymes.

However this book also has some very glaring misinformation and leaves out some extremely important information. The most glaring error of all, and there should be no excuse anymore for anyone writing on histamine intolerance to make such an error, is that the author falsely claims that Methylation is "quackery" when it comes to histamine intolerance just because she read such on Wikipedia, and also after correctly noting that ""The HNMT [Histamine N-methytransferase] enzyme catalyzes the reaction of histamine with a methyldonor to N-methylhistamine."

If Ms. de Wild-Scholten had actually researched the full methylation and histamine pathways she would have realized that Wikipedia was totally wrong about methylation's role in histamine degradation. The HNMT enzyme is a methyltransferase enzyme which means it takes SAMe as a cofactor to work and SAMe is generated by the MAT enzyme converting the amino acid Methionine into SAMe using the cofactor Magnesium and ATP. If someone is going to write a book on histamine intolerance and then go so far as to slander Carl Pfeiffer and his ground breaking work as "Histadalia/Methylation Quackery", they had better do their homework first. If Mr. Pfeiffer was alive he could have sued Ms. de Wild-Schollen for her slander.

If someone has methylation issues such as an MTHFR defect, an MAT defect, a CBS upregulation defect etc. SAMe cannot be generated or recycled properly, or is turned into homocysteine too quickly (by the CBS upregulated enzyme) and histadalia can indeed be the result. I am homozygeous (two bad copies, one from each parent) on the gene that codes for the MAT enzyme, and have many other defects in the methyl cycle as well (including the genes that code for both critical MTHFR enzymes). In addition I am homozygeous for defective genes that code for both the critical DAO enzymes and the MAO A enzyme, and heterozygous for all my HNMT enzymes except one. The minute I took 500 mg of methionine I woke up for the first time in my life with out the blinding histamine headache I had endured every morning of my life and for half of the day every day.

Granted we know much more about how the methyl cycle works now, but such a glaring error by Ms. de Wild-Scholten in this day and age is nothing short of inexcusable.

So if you choose to purchase this book, please disregard the authors misinformation concerning Methylation.

Very detailed and well-explained

I found this book to be very useful. As a high-frequency migraine sufferer, I have suspected histamine intolerance to be a primary trigger for some time. The author explains the difference between DAO and HNMT enzymes and gives valuable case-history info. A must-read for anyone with frequent migraines.

A very useful book

I bought this book a few months ago. It turns out to be very useful. The author has spent much effort in bringing together what is known from large amount of sources, and to integrate it in a general perspective. At many points the different causal pathways are described in a level of detail that is hard to find in other sources. For those interested in the complex mechanisms behind histamine intolerance who are not able or do not want to do all this work by themselves, this book is a very helpful source.

Great Companion

I have volume one Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook and it is a true Volume 2. By itself, it is a catalogue of waveforms present by harmonic content and if you are very proficient Synth programmer then it may provide value in developing sounds for some new project. I am not proficient but with the first volume, it becomes a real aid in building your inventory of sounds. I am very grateful to Mr. Welsh for both of his books. Excavating sounds from an analogue synth. is a real joy for me because of his efforts.
