It's a TWO volume book!

The book is very useful in pharmacy daily practice, specially in an industrial enviroment.

You have to be careful as how the book is listed because even though Amazon catalog shows it as a 2506 Hardcover book I actually received the Volume II only (starting about Chapter 7 around page 1300's) and I am still trying to get the missing Volume I.

Don't trust the catalogue (maybe that is why there is no picture available?) and My advice is: Double check with your provider before ordering.

Ace the "Foundations of Reading" MTEL (the 1st time)

I aced the Foundations of Reading exam the first time I took it. Here's my advice:

1.) Take the computer-based test. It is worth the extra money. You'll take the test in a small, quiet room where you will be given your own private cubicle and a sound-proof head set. It is SO much easier to concentrate without distractions. Also, it's easier to type in the essays (you don't have to write rough drafts and then rewrite final copies -or- worry about handwriting neatness) and you have "copy/paste" features to use during editing. It was very easy to navigate on the computer - and I'm far from being "computer savvy." The best part is you can schedule it for a day/time that works best for you. If you are not a "morning person" schedule yourself an afternoon test.

2.) Use the practice test on the MTEL website to guide your studying!!! It was the most helpful source I found. It will give you a very good idea of what to expect on the exam. Memorize the "strong" example responses (on MTEL website) for both essay questions. You will have 1 question that has to do with miscue analysis and 1 question that has to do with comprehension on your exam. All you have to do to get 4/4 points on both is memorize and understand the reading comprehension terminology + the miscue analysis terminology. Know the terms and definitions associated with both by heart. Also, memorize the "wording" of
the "strong" sample responses. Go into the exam with a very good understanding of reading comprehension (inferential vs. literal) and the ability to analyze the miscues made during an oral reading assessment.

3.) As for the multiple choice questions: they cover a lot of material. I strongly suggest buying the book "Beating Them All!" by Chris Nicholas Boosalis. Make sure you have a very good understanding of ALL the terms/material in chapter 2. Memorize the sequences for phonics instruction and phonemic awareness instruction too.

I took the RICA test February 2016 and had studied other books. I failed it! A coworker recommended me this book and if you study it for 30 days like it says you will pass! I took the test again in May 2016 and passes! If you are taking the RICA you will spend no less than 3.5 hours working on this test.

Para haber sido un libro que al parecer tomo 8 meses en realizarse pudo haber sido un mejor texto. Tiene mucho que mejorar.

The Eyes of a Stranger is book #4 for me. The character of Gertie appeared in #3, Luke's Legacy. She was a young woman on a train who helped the lawman take care of an infant.

When I finished writing Luke's Legacy I couldn't get Gertie out of my mind. Her story unfolded as I wrote in the month of November 2010. I thought about the mail-order brides of yester-year and wondered about the circumstances that would cause someone to leave home to go into the arms of a stranger.

This is not only a love story, but a story of dedication and sacrifice. I hope you enjoy it and hope to hear from you.

About the Author
Elaine Littau is the author of four published books and many magazine and newspaper articles. She is a mentor/coach to other authors and enjoys teaching book marketing techniques as well as public speaking for groups. Some of her favorite events have been speaking to young people about pursuing their dreams. She has been a church secretary, led women’s groups, taught pre-school, and was a mentor for the M.O.P.S. (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in her community. Her writings have also received recognition: Nan’s Journey-Named Best Christian Historical Fiction 2008 by Christian Story Tellers.com and Luke’s Legacy-Honorable Mention Christian Historical Fiction 2010 by Christian Story Tellers.com. Elaine and Terry, her husband of thirty-six years, reside on a small acreage near Perryton, Texas where they enjoy spending time with family and friends. They raised three sons and now enjoy three daughters-in-law and four grandchildren.

A wonderful story; very well written

I enjoyed reading this book so much. The beginning was very sad. I felt pain for Gertie's mother for being so helpless and unable to keep her daughter safe and by her side. However, I found myself enjoying the story of this strong girl who was so kind and honorable. Her journey was rough, but it ended happily.

I read all of Elaine's books! I enjoy getting to know the characters in each book. It is fun to see the "old friends" from the previous books in the series as they show back up. This book my have been my favorite! It will be one of yours too! Make sure you have the next book in the series ordered, if not already received, because you wan't like waiting for the next book!

Hooked from the Beginning

When I purchased The Eyes of a Stranger by Elaine Littau, the fourth story in the Nan's Heritage series, I had no idea that two pages into the book I would be unable to put it down. Having read Elaine's first novel in the series, Nan's Journey, a few years ago, I was again impressed with her great ability to tell a story that draws the reader in through intrigue, romance, adversity, and tremendous character development and dialogue. Added to the positives is the way Elaine offers hope through a relationship with Christ and the promises of God's Word. The beauty of this work is that although it is part of a series, it is certainly capable of standing on its own as great read.

Several of the stories were great but the stories meandered on down from less than ...

This is the 1983 anthology for the magazine "Whispers", a collection of up and coming horror short story writers. All the stories here are copyrighted 1982 with 4 of them being previously published in the magazine while the others were curated for this anthology exclusively. This was a very rocky read for me. I had read 4 of the authors before but hadn't even heard of the others. Several of the stories were great but the stories meandered on down from less than great, to ok, to more than one that was a zero-rated dud. But those great ones sure had something going for them because after all was said and done the stories surprisingly averaged out to a solid rounded-up four. A wild and crazy ride.

1. A Night on the Docks by Freff - Delightful story to open the anthology with! Taking place in a time long ago a village is suffering a wasting disease, they only know it must have something to do with a shipwreck off their shores a few days ago. All the children feel something hanging over the village but one can smell an evil and identify it so he goes to the prince of the dockrats. A council is called and all the village children: rich, middle class, poor and orphans meet on the docks to hear the tale and plan to find the evil and destroy it. A reverse on one of those stories where the evil infects all the children in a town, here they are the saviours. Stories with kids are always creepy. Good first story. (3/5)

2. Into Whose Hands by Karl Edward Wagner - Oh, I loved this one! A favourite topic of mine! All about the goings on in a psychiatric hospital under the weekend shift of Dr. Marlowe.(5/5)

3. Out of Copyright by Ramsey Campbell - An unscrupulous anthologist rips off a widow when purchasing her late husband's book collection because of a rare first edition of short stories never reprinted in its entirety by a famed Gothic writer. He gets his in the end, obviously. (3/5)

4. Elle est trois, (la mort) by Tanith Lee - I liked the atmosphere but way too wordy. A French Gothic. (1/5)

5. Come To the Party by Frances Garfield - People can't find a house in a rural setting for a party and eventually stumble upon an eerie party in a gloomy old house. Pretty lame. (2/5)

6. The Warrior Who Did Not Hear by Gerald W. Page - The longest story so far, dived into chapters but not a novella. A medieval-type warrior fantasy. Took a bit for me to get into then a curse is cast upon the main character and it gets a bit spooky but not really very exciting. Just ok. (3/5)

7. Fair Trade by William F. Nolan - This is an ode to the old EC horror stories. A corpse rises from the grave to exact his revenge. Short and sweet. (4/5)

8. I Never Could Say Goodbye by Charles L. Grant - Loved this! I've always wanted to read this author's novels but so far, have only sampled a few short stories. A bit difficult story to summarise without giving anything away, but a melancholy story, and a dark one including loneliness, murder and ghosts.All done in the name of companionship and family. A bit eerie. Good story.(5/5)

9. The Devil You Say! by Lawrence Treat - After seeing Faust a third-rate ball player makes a deal with the devil, not for his soul but for his wife. He soon realises his mistake and figures out a way to cancel the deal. Hardly a horror story but clever. (3/5)

9. Diploma Time by Frank Belknap Long - A tale of a man with a violent temper and subsequent blackouts and paranormal revenge. Good one. (4/5)

10. Tell Us About The Rats, Grandpa by Stephen Kleinhen - A man is checking out his widowed daughter's new man for approval and during the visit tells him and his grandson's a creepy story. Quite chilling! (5/5)

11. What Say the Frogs Now, Jenny? by Hugh B. Cave - A waitress walking home at night. This has a bit of everything. Lonely dark roads at night, murder, revenge, and ghosts. (5/5)

12. The Beholder by Richard Christian Matheson - Very creepy. A man (or perhaps he's more) uses a special set of paints to capture the very essence of young women. (5/5)

13. Creative Coverage, Inc. by Michael Shea - This is the longest story so far, divided into sections and what I'd call a novella. It takes a real-life tragedy that had happened a few years earlier (which takes the reader a little while to figure out what it is) and puts a nefarious pre-planned big drug company conspiracy theory behind it. The ending wasn't that satisfying, otherwise good. (4/5)

14. The Dancer in the Flames by David Drake - My favourite! A soldier in Cambodia is doing a little stunt by sparking a small piece a napalm which burns briefly but in it he sees a woman who looks like a Cambodian woman he saw get accidently burned in a village they napalmed. This woman calls out to him in French to come to her. Is this his guilt? Must surely be? But the twist ending is oh so wonderfully out of left field you 'd never see it coming and amazing. Freaky! (5/5)

15. The Reflex-Man in Whinnymuir Close by Russell Kirk - This is a longer story set in about the 1600s, pseudo-written from remaining pages of a manuscript so it's rather old-fashioned language and about ghosts or witches or perhaps both, I don't know. I've tried to read it three times now and my mind just will not focus. Too dry and boring for me. (0/5)
