Review
“Mycophilia is the most engrossing, readable book about mushrooms and the science of mycology I have ever read. This is THE book to give to people interested in mushrooms, whether they are beginners, longtime mushroom hunters, or professional mycologists.
” ―Gary Lincoff, author of The National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms
“Engaging trawl through the labryinths of mycophilia...lyrical and precise...Ms. Bone ends her odyssey elegantly, discovering mushrooms may be the most important--and most hopeful--ingredient of life on Earth.” ―Wall Street Journal
“One of the most beguiling books I've read this year. A generous sprinkling of amateur photos only adds to the charm of "Mycophilia"...Weird details, combined with a flair for startling analogies, brighten even the most rambling passages of Bone's book...Set her on the hunt for fungi in the aftermath of a forest fire and Bone can make you shiver in the slovenly vacuum of a campsite she compres to a cold fireplace...Bone deployes the precise, uncommon vocabulary of the best naturalists. Bone's enthusiasm would prompt even the most languid armchair ecologist to take a new interest in...mushrooms...Each and every fungus contains properties that, as described by Bone, sound almost magical...Delicious, surprising and dizzyingly informative book.” ―Wall Street Journal
“Earthy and honest...with good humor and clear writing.” ―The Denver Post
“Mycophilia...will delight many readers...[Bone] makes a charming and witty tour guide through the vast world of fungi...Mycophilia is one of those books that can completely change the way we view the Earth, making us ever more conscious and even conscientious citizens.” ―The Plain Dealer

Captivating!
By Ricecake6
Mycophilia is the kind of book you can re-read over and over. As a beginner mushroom enthusiast, I was delighted to read about mushroom culture, types of mushrooms (thanks for introducing me to candy caps!) and the many many directions that my new found mushroom love can lead me.

A single persons recollections and understanding of mushrooms and mushroom people.
By Pavel G. Nosov
One persons personal experience through mushrooms and mushroom people. Well written and organized in a story-like fashion. Personal feelings, emotions, and understanding of the world shared with everyone in an open manner. Bored and cant get out to the woods to mushroom hunt? - Read this book. Looking forward to reading more into Mrs. Bones writing.

Wondrous and creepy
By BrooklynGal
I came to this book because of research I am doing on symbiosis and microorganisms and a growing fascination with all things tiny and weird that keep our ecosystem thriving. Eugenia Bone is a compatible, sometimes funny, honest knowledgeable guide to a beginner in the world of mushrooms and all things fungus.
I loved learning about the sociology of mushroom people, how to (and how not to) grow mushrooms in your apartment. How the world is permeated with fungi (yes, I am a bit creeped out knowing that everything has fungi in it!). And how wondrous the world is and how tied together by mushroom threads, fungal spores, etc. we are.
Also a lot of fun are the cultural takes and attitudes about mushrooms. I have travelled in Eastern Europe a lot and mushroom hunting is a sacred skill, sadly disappearing as a younger generation prefers texting and computers, which aren't bad in themselves, but it is a loss that the knowledge is disappearing. These folks got most of their minerals from mushrooms!
In any case, the book is great to just learn about mushrooms in a grand general sense and to look at the world from a totally new perspective.
