Derek relaxed and fell into their old pattern with ease. “What’s the matter, Lisa, afraid you’ve lost your magic touch? Are you not up for the challenge?”

That got her. Her spine stiffened and fire gleamed in her eyes. “Of course I am.”

He fake frowned, nodded his head with understanding, and stage whispered, “I get it.”

“Get what?”

Derek glanced at their captive audience. “Nothing.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him. He valiantly avoided staring at her increased cleavage. It wasn’t so hard with his grandparents and her brother watching. And her silent demand for an answer.

“I probably shouldn’t say it now. Not in front of everyone.”

Lisa’s eyes narrowed. “Please, do enlighten us—all of us.” Her condescending sarcasm stroked the blood-thirsty devil on his shoulder. Their audience of respective family members waited in expectation. Grandpa, in particular, appeared to enjoy the exchange immensely. This next part would almost make high school worth it.

Derek shrugged. “Obviously, it’s me.”

About the Author
I fell in love with books at a young age, and growing up, whenever Dad realized I’d disappeared when I was supposed to be working, he usually found me hiding out somewhere with a book. Writing evolved from reading, and the first story I ever finished was in high school, about my celebrity crush. I got an A on that creative writing ‘assignment,’ though I’m not sure my teacher ever read all 187 pages. I started writing again in my mid-twenties, and no matter the journey my characters take, the end result is always the same—Happily Ever After. After years of being a travel agent while writing on the side, I am now able to live my dream of being a full time writer. I’m still an avid reader, and also a fan of movies with that HEA. Mistletoe & a Little Help from Santa

This is an older series that has been re-released and I am glad that it was. This is the last (or is it??) of a series based in Wisconsin about a family, romance and Christmas. Lisa and Derek competed with each other through high school with one always trying to beat out the other whether it was athletics or academic. When Lisa returned for the wedding of one of her brother's to Derek's cousin years later the competition was still there in more ways than one. But Derek had a new question - why Lisa was staying in her hometown and not returning to this glamorous life that her family and others thought she had. Obviously something had happened to her and Derek was bound and determined to find out what. Lisa needed his help in more ways than one, not only to reignite the spark that was always there, but to keep the drive and passion going that made her who she was. They just needed a little help from Santa and the mistletoe to realize everything that they wanted and needed had been right in front of them the whole time. Each other.

Love This Series

This third novella in the Romancing Wisconsin series is every bit as good as the first two. The characters are well developed and entertaining. The sparks fly as Lisa and Derek pick up the competition from where they left off in high school. It's a sweet romance with some sizzling scenes. If you want a feel good story, pick up any of these three novellas.

Fear Banished

The third of this series was actually the best in my opinion. It still was boy meets girl and wham; however, there were the moments when this one seemed more real life--would have liked itthis developed more and into a full length novel. Lisa's fears have crippled her and only on more knowledge and reflection does Derek detect the real problem. Derek addresses it rather bluntly, but effectively and the way is cleared for a good relationship between Lisa and him as well as for Lisa to find her potential. Loved the Riley and Walsh families and setting; the novella was most enjoyable. A sweet read.

Got the book because it was "an executive's" supply chain guide but I would think if someone is an executive they would be familiar with most of what was reviewed, so maybe it should have been called An Executive's Supply Chain Review. Great reference BUT its not the most current edition

This is a great reference for marina owners, operators and designers. Just be aware that this is a reprint of the first edition (1991) not the second edition (2000). There is a lot of similarities between the two editions however the second edition has more information/specifications on planning for mega yachts. Why they did not reprint the second edition is beyond me. Would be nice if the publisher could find a contributor to help them prepare a 3rd edition to further update what they have since boats don't seem to be getting smaller or more narrow over time and it's been 15 years since the second edition has come out.

Best on Mark for the Dough

James Brooks has accomplished something special in his slim volume on Mark. He has interacted with all the important Marcan studies as well as tons of other pertinent material. While the commentary stands firmly within the Evangelical tradition (as do all NAC commentaries), Brooks is not afraid to plow some fairly independent furrows. This volume will also satisfy all but the most hard-core of redaction-critical readers! In Brooks' theological reflections (between the actual verse-by-verse commentary) he packs immense learning into small spaces. While my knowledge of Greek is scant compared to that of Brooks, it seems to me that he occasionally reaches for alternate readings. For example, in Mark 4:12, Brooks' preferred translation of the "hina" as reading, "as a result." While this reading is theoretically possible, it seems that Brooks has allowed his reading of the parallel passages in the other Synoptics (in which, Matthew and Luke supposedly "soften the blow" of the Isaianic quote) to unduly influence his reading of this word, and thus the entire text. One would have preferred that the normal reading ("in order that") was taken, and that Brooks would have allowed us to see a brilliant scholar like himself truly wrestle with the text. Having said that, such slips are few and far between. This text should take an honored place on any pastor's, teacher's or scholar's Mark section. If you only have 20 or 25 bucks to spend on a solid, dependable commentary on Mark, look no further. This is not your dad's commentary on Mark, and James Brooks will challenge you, sometimes irritate you, but certainly bless you as you dig in.

The NAC series is a good series, the columns on each verse could be a little longer, some verses require more words, but it gives a good basic understanding of the text and context.

About the Author
Virginia Savage McAlester is a lifelong advocate of historical preservation with deep professional interests in architecture. She has an undergraduate degree from Harvard University, where she attended Radcliffe College and completed the first-year curriculum of the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She is a founding member and past president of Preservation Dallas, and serves as an advisor emeritus for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She is author of The Making of a Historic District: Swiss Avenue, Dallas, Texas and coauthor of The Homes of the Park Cities, Dallas: Great American Suburbs. She lives in Dallas, Texas, where she is an honorary member of the state and local chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

A Stylish Guide to Styles

This book is a "must" for anyone who likes to look at houses. Its novel, central purpose is to aid in identifying the architectural styles of American homes. It does this in a manner analogous to "field guides" for birds, bugs or plants, but instead of wings and beaks or leaves and bark, it describes roof lines, window treatments and the many other visible characteristics that define each style. Introductory chapters offer an engaging historical background for floor plans, construction techniques and exterior features; these chapters are clear, concise and accessible even to a novice. The chapter on neighborhoods, new for the 2nd edition, presents a fascinating account of how geography and advances in transportation have influenced people's decisions to live in communities and the homes they were likely to build in a given locale. The author is well aware that illustrations are crucial in a volume of this nature; she provides hundreds of straightforward line drawings that clarify structural and decorative concepts, plus hundreds more instructive photographs of actual dwellings. In the chapters on individual styles these figures complement one another to convey both the essential elements of each style and the range of variations that may be encountered "in the field". Add an exhaustive reference section at the end and you have a versatile work that will enrich the afternoons of casual weekend wanderers while also serving the needs of serious students of architectural history.

Cheap at Twice the Price, Depending on the Price -- A Must-Have Regardless

I know of no single one-volume work on American architectural styles that has (a) established such a good track record in its previous editions, (b) added to much new information for this (2013) edition, and (c) is available significantly below retail at Amazon. This book is aimed at the layman -- obviously, an 880-page tome with over 600 pages devoted to text is not for people who want a quick looker-upper, but it is fascinating nonetheless and not over the heads of those motivated by curiosity. If you hear Jed Clampett's TV mansion referred to as "Beaux-Arts" (boze-ahrt) style -- well, it is, and this book will tell you about the history of such edifices, just as it does with "Second Empire," "Minimal Traditional," "Italianate," pretty much the whole range of American houses, old and new, vernacular and individually designed. Cheers to Virginia Savage McAlester and her hardworking staff for bringing the original 1984 volume -- itself no slouch -- gloriously up-to-date. I own not only the 1984 predecessor and this new volume, of course, but have been proud to make this one a gift to friends far and near. It's that good.

Cheap at Twice the Price? Could be. Prices have been fluctuating lately, but are always well below the benchmark retail of fifty U.S. dollars.

Hint: This would make a terrific present not only to an architecture student, but to someone who has just received her or his Real Estate sales broker's license.

For Anyone Curious about Houses

My dearly beloved is a big fan of houses. He loves to study the architecture and details of housing everywhere we go. So, when I saw this book reviewed in the Wall Street Journal, I knew it would be perfect for him. At the beginning of the book, there are charts with diagrams to help the reader identify the type of house he/she is looking at. For example, a sketch of a roof with a 2 or 3 word description, and the book recommends looking at one or more type of house to see which it is. However, it's also very good for reading, with chapters on the layouts of early towns and so forth. There is also a section on the housing used by various Native American groups. Each chapter about a style of houses includes a few pages of history, etc, before sketches, details about characteristics of the type, and photos of actual houses of each style from various parts of the country. Good for a long reading session, but it's also a fast and easy reference for when you just want to know what you've just seen.

About the Author
ALEXANDRA GRABLEWSKI is a well-known food and beverage photographer whose work has appeared in Gourmet, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, Better Homes and Gardens, and Wine Spectator, as well as in many cookbooks.

Michael G. LaFosse has been an origami artist for decades and is considered a leading authority and master of the art. An avid teacher, LaFosse co-founded the Origamido Studio, a learningcenter and design studio that produces folded art and commercial designs for a variety of international clients. LaFosse was prominently featured in the recent Peabody Award-winning film, "Between the Folds", by Vanessa Gould.

Co-founder of the Origamido Studio, Richard L. Alexander is the chief papermaker and is a frequent collaborator with other famous paper artists. He has consulted with apparel, container, toy, and consumer product designers to incorporate folding theory into familiar daily use objects. Together, Alexander and LaFosse have created dozens of origami exhibitions, and more than seventy books, kits, and videos about paper and paper arts.

Exceeded My Expectations

This book exceeded my expectations. I first saw his works at the 2011 Pacific Coast Origami Conference in Bellevue WA, and liked his style of folding. I had been supportive of his prior publications, like his former Creased Magazine. This most recent publication combines both simple and challenging folds, something for every level of origami enthusiast. I tend to favor the more simplistic fold patterns, and this book was filled with such designs, more than what I expected.

His designs have a unique flare. I love his frog! I could fold 1,000! The directions for the base forms and types of papers are an excellent reference too.

sakura blossom lampshade is impossible with bad instructions

I've only tried one other project in this book (the dress) and that went okay, not perfect because of the tiny zigzag folds you guess about but trying the cover piece now, the grand beautiful reason for buying the book, has absolutely the most frustrating set of instructions I've ever encountered. So much is missing and it's not intuitive. I've spent a couple days now trying to figure it out. I'm not super advanced but certainly not a beginner either. I like doing the geometric origami best and have done many projects that require many pieces. It says make 30 units but how many clusters of five??? How many bridge units? Are bridge units part of the 30 or extras?? There's so very little to go by, the photos aren't helpful (the graphics are helpful but so very limited), and for the final step it's some rhomboid illustration that someone thought to add, saying "Here, make it look like this". Totally, frustratingly useless!!!!! What a disappointment. This book is mostly for showing off Song's talents - yes, very nicely but beware of buying because he's keeping the secrets of how he did them to himself on this project (and possibly others). If someone has done the lampshade and figured it out, let me know. Otherwise, this book is getting shelved until I feel like banging my head again.
